In 2010 more than thousand families suffered from earthquake will get apartments in Gyumri
YEREVAN, December 8. /ARKA/. In 2010, 1056 families living in the second largest city of Armenia – Gyumri, who were left homeless after destructive Spitak earthquake will get apartments, said Armenian Minister of Urban Planning Vardan Vardanyan in the Armenian Parliament on Wednesday.
“Currently, all construction works are finished and 1056 families are recognized beneficiaries of housing program. At present, privatization of apartments is in a process”, he said.
Construction company “Glendale Hills” received 24 billion drams for the implementation of the program in 2009. In 2010 funding was 19.9 billion drams. No foreign investments were involved in the construction works.
Specially established commission deals with distribution of apartments which consists of representatives of all interested parties. For the provision of transparency of the commission’s activity, representatives of NGOs and journalists are included in it.
Distribution process is open and transparent.
In 2010, 1624 families got apartments in earthquake zone: 1056 – in Gyumri, 306 – in Lori region villages, 220 – in Spitak and 42 – in Stepanavan.
It is planned to finish the construction program in 2012. It costs about 65 billion drams.
At present, more than 6.9 thousand families are included in the list of homeless families suffered from earthquake.
On December 7, 1988 destructive earthquake took place in the north of Armenia – Spitak and Leninakan (current Gyumri) and more than hundred villages at 11.41 a.m. Other cities were ruined partially. The focus of earthquake was Spitak – 10 points by 12- point scale. That day 25 thousand people died, 140 thousand became invalids and half a million was left homeless. –0–
