Gyumri residents are confronted with dilemma
29.10.2011 – 13:26
It has been for several months that the government tries to solve the problem of the tent-houses. The 1st of November is being considered as the deadline. Till that date the residents should leave the tent-houses and move to new apartments. The residents again complain, as it is impossible to move to the apartments, the total area of which is 40-65 square meters, if the family consists of 4 and more members.
Many Gyumri residents live for already 23 years in the terrible living conditions. During this period, the people had tried to construct something to live in; they resigned with these circumstances and had waited for the promised apartments. The process had started several years ago. The first stage fo the apartments accordance had started in July of 2010. 1056 homeless people had received the apartments in Mush2 district. It was announced about the dismantling of the tent-houses from the very first day of the apartments accordance. The deadlines were determined and now it seems that the process might be completed.
The town-planning minister of the Republic of Armenia had said that they will wait until the 15th of November and then the citizens will be deprived of the apartments ownership. Otherwise, the tent-house will be forcibly dismantled.
The written statement was sent to the government, in connection with the mentioned problem of the large families. If there isn’t going to be any reply to the request, it is possible that many Gyumri residents will have to move either to their relatives or to live in the tents. There is no alternative option.
