• From the beginning of this year Austrian children´s hospital in Gyumri has been working on a tight schedule. During the first 7 months of the year it has had as many patients as during the entire period of last year. Starting from September the amount of patients has reduced. According to managers of the hospital the activity is caused by certificates that are given to children. The certificates grant the children free medical care. Starting from September the situation has changed. Today there are many empty beds. However there is a whirl again in the hospital. Recently the hospital has received expensive medical equipment. A part of that is brought from Austria, another part – from the capital. The project is financed by the Austrian part. Those patients that receive treatment in the framework of state order will be able to use the equipment for free. The rest of the patients will have to pay for examination. The cost of the service is not defined yet. Surgery department has also been re-equipped. Surgery instruments and surgery digital technologies have been renewed. Within short time hospital´s laboratory will be re-equipped as well. Here the employees use instruments that are approximately 10 years old. Soon the hospital will receive new department of medical equipment. Instruments and air disinfecting equipment are on their way.

• It is winter in Shirak region, however the tent-houses residents in Gyumri had stayed with no heating for winter period. The residents did not obtain the firewood in summer, when it was cheap as they trusted the promises of the authorities, in according with which soon they would have been able to move to new districts in Gyumri – Mush2 and Ani.

  Now, when it appears that the accordance of the apartments is being postponed till next year, the families had reached a deadlock and the prices for firewood in Gyumri rise with every day. The Shaboyan family from the tent-houses in “Barekamutsun” (“Friendship”) garden had appeared in same situation.

• In comparison with the last year, this year the prices for the firewood had increased by 24%. One cubic meter costs now 6 500 drams. Last year, it was only 4 450 drams. As explained the head of Kapan forestry Vladimir Mirzoyan, this is the cost of the wood in the forest.

  “The ready firewood costs much more expensive”, reported V. Mirzoyan. “It is necessary to take into consideration the felling and the transportation costs. Many people prefer to cut the trees by themselves, as it is much cheaper. But we reject them more and more, as there were cases when one had received the permission, but instead the entire group of people was cutting down the trees”, he said.

  By the decision of the government of Armenia, the villages, which are located close by the forests, will receive the firewood for free.

  “The forestry had already started the calculation of the villages, which are located near forests. Each family will receive 8 cubic meters of the firewood. This is the felling debris from the dead-wood trees and bushed. Thus, the villagers receive the firewood for the winter period and also, the forests are being cleaned from unnecessary stuff”, informed Mr. Mirzoyan.

  The market price of the firewood is 12 000 drams for one cubic meter.

  According to the sellers, the ash-tree and oak are the most popular. But it is hard to provide everyone with the mentioned firewood, thus we also use other kinds of the trees.
